10 Facebook Group Posting Etiquette

Read: DIY Travel Philippines group rules

4. Wag kang pikon pag yung iba e tatawa tawa lang o nagbibiro FB Group yan kaya masaya wala ka sa Library. Pero wag din feeling close.

5. Wag ka magshopping spree na lagay ng ads e cocommentan mo ng “How Much or HM” Facebook group pinasok mo at hindi Tiangge, may kapangyarihan ka pra iPM cya samntalahin mo habang libre at baka bukas may bayad na yan.

Group for agencies, vans and organizers: DIY TRAVEL PH EVENTS, TOURS, VANS

Got something to sell? Or transient owner? Join DIY TRAVEL PH BUY AND SELL, RENT, HOMESTAY, TRANSIENT, STAYCATION

How to PLAN A DO IT YOURSELF Thailand – Cambodia 13 DAYS

The Airfare

We made our booking for Manila – Bangkok – Manila last June 2017, during Cebu Pacific’s Piso Fare (read our guide to booking a piso fare), and our ticket only costs 4500 for 2 pax (no baggage, no seats, no meal, no insurance). Our only mistake here was the outbound flight should have been in Vietnam if you want to do a multi country tour.

The Preparation

We only made up our mind to push through with the trip just a week before Christmas. So since its peak season, I had to scour DIY Travel Philippines group for itineraries, hotel recommendations, and how to get to what.

Doing a Bangkok – Cambodia – Vietnam was going to prove costly and time consuming. Hence we decided to visit Siem Reap, then explore Phuket and Phi Phi Islands.

We got hold of a couple of Traveller sim cards for data and calls prior to our departure from Pinoy Travelers Unlimited Data SIM CARD.

Do it yourself booking hotels

Since we are DIYers, I want to be able to pick what I want to do and where to stay. I spent 2 weeks reading Trip Advisor for hotel reviews.

But my ultimate bestfriend is Traveloka. I downloaded the app onto my phone.

What I love about Traveloka is that I can hold hotel and flight bookings! This enables me to lock in prices, and continue to read more reviews before finally paying for the hotel.

The same thing applies to flights. For days I was going back and forth whether to check out Koh Samui. So at one point, I had a ticket held for Koh Samui and Phuket 😂😂

I booked all of our hotels from Traveloka. I did compare it with agoda and booking.com, but still ended up with Traveloka because of their responsive customer service.

The Dreaded Border Crossing

As I was creating our itinerary, and with budget constraints, I had to think long and hard how to cross from Bangkok to Siem Reap. Taking the train to Aranprayathet, and crossing Poi Pet sounded so exciting, but we eventually settled on booking online our direct bus ticket from 12go.asiaThe Decision

After alot of reading, and I mean alotttt! We have decided to start our journey in Bangkok and explore with Backpack Panda by Seth Encina (a fellow Filipino, based in Bangkok, a member of DIY Travel Philippines). Cross over to Siem Reap and explore Angkor Wat (arranged a tour with Mr Sen Shafie, again found him through the group).

We will be taking a bus back to Bangkok, sleep at the airport and catch a flight to Phuket, then go straight to Phi Phi.

Will spend a couple of nights in Phi Phi, a night in Phuket, and fly back to Bangkok 1 day before our flight to Manila.

This gives us one whole day of shopping!

The Discussion

You can follow my post in the group here, it may help you make your own decisions for your trip. Remember you need to be a member of the group to join the discussion.

We are TWO years old!

DIY Travel Philippines just turned TWO last June 24, 2017!  And here’s some quick facts about us.  Do you have more questions?  Feel free to comment!

But before that watch our Grand Summer Gathering 2017

What is DIY Travel Philippines?
DIY Travel Philippines is a facebook group back in 2015.  It now has over 450,000 members and growing.  Our members consist of travelers, local guides, boat operators, van operators and travel agencies.  We wanted to create a group that will provide a traveler information for all their travelers.  It is open for newbies and experienced travelers.  As the group grew larger, we decided to create sister groups that will cater all your travel needs namely:
DIY Travel PH Events, Tours and Vans – for all ads related to events, tours and vans
DIY Travel Philippines Pa-edit Please – for editing of travel photos
DIY Travel PH Buy and sell – for travel items only
DIY Travel PH Foodies – for all foodies!
Who started DIY Travel Philippines?
Michelle Enriquez (that’s me!) and my partner Rachelle Abad, started the group.  We are just a bunch of travelers who love to go on roadtrips, and often find ourselves in a place that wasn’t in our itinerary.  We wanted to have a group of travelers like us who can exchange information with, hence the formation of the group.

What does DIY stand for?
It stands for Do It Yourself.  This mean who are planning your own trip, you want a trip that is specially tailored for yourself or your group.  We want to help people looking for a location, or a hotel, or even where to eat!
How come there are still organizers, travel agencies and van operators in your group?

We are not selfish, and since our goal is to help not just our fellow travelers, but also everyone in the travel industry, free of charge!  Also, there are people who prefer to join a group, and sometimes its hard to find a group.  And believe us, its difficult to organize a trip, since it is prone to DRAWINGS or BACKOUT DANCERS (people who do not show up, or people who back out list minute).

What are your official social media accounts?

Don’t forget to follow us on our official accounts only!  Beware of pages who imitate us.  We are not a travel agency, we do not accept money from anybody, we will never ask for your money unless its for an official group event (which will be announced only on our official social media accounts)

Itinerary 7D6N Dumaguete Bohol Cebu Siquijor Manjuyod Casaroro Apo Island Tour

I booked our tickets last March 2016, and managed to bag a Manila-Dumaguete-Manila flight for 1000 pesos each with baggage!

How much of the Philippines have you visited?

I found this nifty little tool on the web which shows where in the Philippines you have been.

I came home to the Philippines in October 2010, with a mentality that I will have a difficult life here, that I probably won’t survive etc etc.

But lo and behold!  I have come to love and enjoy the Philippines, and it is becoming my passion to travel and see as much as I can of the Philippines.

I am 100% Filipino, born in the Philippines, but at the age of 13 moved to a different country with my parents.

Now, I’m 32 (gah! wala na sa kalendaryo!), and I am now proud to say that I live in the Philippines!

So anyway, go check out this map before and share your screenshots at DIY Travel Philippines facebook group! =)

Happy traveling!
